The Adelie penguin colony at Cape Royds. Many of the birds were brooding eggs.

Emperor penguins on the ice below the Adelie colony.

Open ocean at the sea ice age. The tiny black dots on the ice are penguins headed out to feed.

Freshwater algae. A little meltwater coming from the ice and enough nutrients from penguin guano are enough to allow the algae to grow. The only green growing thing we see down here!
